Curator Review
Verdict
A warm, gently funny crowd-pleaser with real heart, built around a great ensemble and an uplifting true-story premise. It’s predictable in places, but the charm, performances, and small-town British wit make it easy to recommend.
Best for
viewers who like feel-good true stories
fans of British ensemble comedies
people looking for a light but sincere watch
audiences interested in women-led stories about friendship and aging
Skip if
you want sharp satire or big narrative surprises
you dislike sentimental crowd-pleasers
you need a high-stakes or tightly plotted drama
you are put off by broad, cozy British humor
Overview
Calendar Girls turns a cheeky premise into something sweeter and more humane than its logline suggests. The film’s real pleasure is watching a group of older women reclaim attention, agency, and fun without losing the ordinary rhythms of their lives. It’s funny, affectionate, and grounded in a very specific Yorkshire sensibility.
Worth noting
Helen Mirren and Julie Walters give the movie its spark, but the ensemble feel matters just as much: the friendships, gossip, and local friction are what keep it from becoming a one-note novelty. The comedy is broad at times, yet the film stays on the right side of sincerity, treating its characters with warmth rather than mockery.
Bottom line
If you’re in the mood for something breezy and uplifting, this is an easy recommendation. It won’t surprise you much, but it has enough wit, charm, and emotional good will to make the familiar shape feel worthwhile.

Its not naked its nude. Based on a true story, middle aged woman raise money for charity and cause quite the stir! A charming little gal pal movie thats an easy and mellow watch. Also an unexpected Anthrax cameo 🤘
The scenery is lush and green I kinda wanna move to the English countryside now. Mature woman have never looked so good. The last phase is the most glorious afterall.
