A moving, performance-driven sports drama about regret, fatherhood, and the cost of chasing a dream too late. It leans into emotion and inspiration, but the sincerity, strong central turn, and payoff make it resonate well beyond the cricket setting.
Best for

fans of father-son emotional dramas
audiences who enjoy sports films with a strong family angle
people open to melodrama when it’s earned by character work
Skip if
you want a fast, plot-heavy sports movie
you dislike tearjerker storytelling
you prefer understated realism over emotional uplift
you’re not in the mood for a long, reflective drama
Overview
Jersey is built around a familiar comeback arc, but it finds its force in the emotional stakes behind the sport. The film is less interested in cricket as competition than as a last chance at dignity, identity, and being seen by the people who matter most. That gives it a melancholy pull that lingers even when the story turns inspirational.
Worth noting
The central performance carries the film’s biggest swings, and the father-son material is what makes the drama land. It can be openly sentimental, but it usually earns that feeling through patience and lived-in detail rather than empty hype. The result is a sports film that feels intimate first and triumphant second.
Bottom line
If you respond to emotional family dramas with a strong underdog spine, this is an easy recommendation. If you want something leaner or more restrained, it may feel a little too polished and tearful, but its sincerity is hard to dismiss.

With father-son bonding and cricket at its core, Gowtham Tinnanuri weaves a beautiful heartwarming emotional story of redemption. Nani is simply outstanding, delivering one of his career best performance. His portions with Shaddha Srinath were impressively written and conceived. Rest of the cast were good too. Anirudh lifts up the spirit with his terrific songs and background score. The train sequence and the climax move you deeply and leave you with happy tears. One of the best sports drama in recent times. Highly Recommended.

There were tears that ran down my face, but I did not cry.
Broken but whole 💗
I will always admire nani for being distinctive. I don't mind it being cheesy or emotionally manipulative at times cause nani sells it, not once does he make it seem unnatural.
Also love this song, in tamil more as I understand it more than telugu.

Seriously too good! Regret not watching it earlier. Shraddha Srinath might be my new celebrity crush. Ending wasn't dramatic and runtime was so smooth. One of the few gems in sports-drama in Indian cinema!
PS Still have no hype for the Hindi remake. Why is it even being made, Shahid Kapoor should really change his acting career direction, first Arjun Reddy, now this. Sheesh.

Oh so thats why it's called jersey
I'm not entirely convinced that Jersey earns it's 2.5 hour runtime, when you consider that Arjun doesn't pledge to re-enter cricket until the halfway point of the film. The first half, as a result is not nearly as compelling as it could have been as it zeros in on the daily life of a man who's left his dream behind, a dream that we never get to see in action past very mild… more
