Extreme violence. Bad language. And a bloody good time.
Overview
After the vicious slaughter of his family by stone-cold mercenary Sub-Zero, Hanzo Hasashi is exiled to the torturous Netherrealm. There, in exchange for his servitude to the sinister Quan Chi, he’s given a chance to avenge his family – and is resurrected as Scorpion, a lost soul bent on revenge. Back on Earthrealm, Lord Raiden gathers a team of elite warriors – Shaolin monk Liu Kang, Special Forces officer Sonya Blade, and action star Johnny Cage – an unlikely band of heroes with one chance to save humanity. To do this, they must defeat Shang Tsung's horde of Outworld gladiators and reign over the Mortal Kombat tournament.

Verdict
A brutally entertaining, fan-pleasing animated adaptation that leans hard into the franchise’s gore, mythic revenge story, and tournament spectacle. It’s not deep, but it is fast, violent, and surprisingly effective at turning game lore into a propulsive action fantasy.
Best for
Mortal Kombat fans
viewers who want ultra-violent animated action
fans of revenge-driven fantasy
people looking for a faithful video game adaptation
audiences who enjoy tournament-style combat stories
Skip if
you dislike graphic gore and dismemberment
you want subtle character drama over spectacle
you are not interested in video game lore
you prefer family-friendly animation
you want a self-contained story with minimal franchise setup
Overview
Scorpion’s Revenge understands exactly what Mortal Kombat should feel like: mythic, nasty, and gleefully over the top. It centers the franchise’s most iconic vendetta while still making room for the tournament framework, giving the movie a cleaner and more satisfying shape than many live-action attempts.
Worth noting
The animation is built for impact, and the fights are the main attraction. It’s all blood, bone-crunching, hellish imagery, and swaggering one-liners, but the movie also benefits from a clear sense of momentum and a strong handle on the game’s lore.
Bottom line
This is not a subtle or especially layered film, and it doesn’t need to be. If you want a hard-R fantasy brawl that commits to the absurdity and brutality of the source material, it delivers exactly that.

Mortal Kombat has always been a fascinating ride. The live-action movies have been interesting (to say the least), the games have been up and down, and the lore has been a difficult element to nail. Warner Brothers announcing that they were going to tackle this, in animated form, was scary, but I had a bit of hope going in. This film genuinely delivers on all aspects expected. The fight scenes are… more
