The untold story begins.
Overview
Peter Parker is an outcast high schooler abandoned by his parents as a boy, leaving him to be raised by his Uncle Ben and Aunt May. Like most teenagers, Peter is trying to figure out who he is and how he got to be the person he is today. As Peter discovers a mysterious briefcase that belonged to his father, he begins a quest to understand his parents' disappearance – leading him directly to Oscorp and the lab of Dr. Curt Connors, his father's former partner. As Spider-Man is set on a collision course with Connors' alter ego, The Lizard, Peter will make life-altering choices to use his powers and shape his destiny to become a hero.

Curator Review
Verdict
A glossy, emotionally earnest reboot that works best when it leans into Peter Parker’s awkward charm, Gwen’s chemistry, and the kinetic web-swinging. It’s uneven in plotting and villain construction, but the cast and visual energy make it an easy watch for superhero fans who like a more romantic, teen-driven take.
Best for
Spider-Man fans curious about a more introspective, romance-forward version of the character
Viewers who enjoy origin stories and coming-of-age superhero films
Fans of Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone’s chemistry
Audiences who like sleek, blue-toned early-2010s blockbusters
Skip if
You want a tightly plotted superhero movie with a fully satisfying villain arc
You dislike origin-story repetition or franchise setup
You prefer the lighter, quippier tone of later Marvel films
You’re looking for a definitive Spider-Man adaptation rather than a stylish alternate take
Overview
The Amazing Spider-Man is a reboot that feels most alive when it remembers Peter Parker is a lonely kid trying to become someone worth knowing. Andrew Garfield gives the role a nervous, wounded energy that plays well against the film’s more romantic instincts, and Emma Stone brings warmth and intelligence that keeps the movie from sinking into generic franchise mechanics.
Worth noting
Marc Webb stages the action with a nimble, youthful gloss, and the web-swinging still has real momentum. The film also has a strong sense of texture: school hallways, lab spaces, rainy city nights, and improvised heroics all feel designed to make Peter’s world feel lived-in rather than purely comic-book clean.
Bottom line
But the movie is less convincing when it gets tangled in origin-story obligations and villain plotting. Curt Connors is serviceable more than memorable, and the script sometimes rushes through emotional beats it should let breathe. Even so, the combination of tone, cast, and visual style makes it one of the more watchable superhero reboots of its era.
