Curator Review
Verdict
A fast, joke-dense legacy sequel that mostly succeeds by understanding the assignment: keep the pace frantic, the gags stupid-smart, and the runtime lean. Reviews suggest it lands as a rare big-screen spoof with real crowd energy, anchored by a surprisingly committed lead performance and enough visual nonsense to justify the trip.
Best for
fans of absurdist spoof comedy
viewers who miss theatrical comedies with big audience laughs
people who like deadpan performers playing against chaos
fans of the original The Naked Gun style of rapid-fire gag construction
audiences looking for a short, breezy movie night
Skip if
you dislike broad slapstick and pun-heavy humor
you want tightly plotted crime or action over joke density
you prefer subtle comedy or character-driven realism
you are allergic to legacy-sequel nostalgia
Overview
The Naked Gun is built like a machine for laughter: every scene is trying to land a visual gag, a throwaway line, or a ridiculous escalation before you’ve finished recovering from the last one. That commitment is the movie’s biggest asset, and it’s what makes the whole thing feel alive in a way many studio comedies don’t anymore.
Worth noting
What stands out most is how well the film uses its cast. Liam Neeson’s straight-faced severity becomes the engine for the absurdity, while Pamela Anderson and the supporting players help keep the rhythm loose and playful. It’s not trying to be clever in a precious way; it wants to be funny, and it keeps moving until something sticks.
Bottom line
This is less a reinvention than a confident revival of a nearly extinct theatrical form: the big-budget spoof. If you like your comedies loud, silly, and packed with sight gags, it’s an easy recommendation. If you need emotional depth or narrative elegance, this is probably not your stop.

This movie’s commitment to having a joke/sight gag every 45 seconds is unironically one of the most impressive things I’ve seen

Hardest I’ve laughed at the theater in years. I forgot how great it is to share communal laughter with strangers. There are so many great bits that I’m struggling to remember them all. Neeson is inspired. Anderson is great. 85 minute runtime! Definitely going a second time. We NEED more theatrical comedies with actual budgets so please go to the movies and support this.

A big studio comedy that thrives on performance, escalation, and satirical chaos.
