Curator Review
Verdict
A lively, polished sequel with standout action, strong animation, and a welcome role reversal that gives Elastigirl the spotlight. It’s entertaining and family-friendly, but it doesn’t quite match the emotional snap or narrative freshness of the original, and the villain/plot machinery feels a bit thinner.
Best for
fans of superhero stories with family dynamics
viewers who want inventive animated action
parents and kids watching together
audiences who liked the first film and want more of the same energy
Skip if
you want a sequel that deepens the original’s emotional stakes
you’re looking for a tightly focused villain story
you prefer animation with a more surprising plot
you’re tired of superhero satire and genre deconstruction
Overview
Incredibles 2 is a very good time, even when it feels like it’s running on the momentum of its predecessor. Brad Bird still stages action with remarkable clarity and wit, and the movie’s best idea is simple: let Elastigirl lead while Mr. Incredible fumbles through domestic chaos. That swap gives the sequel its freshest comic rhythm and its most satisfying set pieces.
Worth noting
The film is at its strongest when it treats superheroics as both spectacle and labor, balancing public hero work with the exhausting, funny, and occasionally chaotic work of parenting. Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack all get moments that remind you why this family works as an ensemble, even if the story around them is less elegant than before.
Bottom line
What holds it back is a sense of familiarity. The villain plot is serviceable rather than memorable, and the movie never quite finds the emotional charge that made the original feel special. Still, as a sleek, funny, high-energy animated blockbuster, it lands well enough to recommend, especially for viewers who value craft and action over surprise.

Brad Bird is the best action director currently working. And the only person who should be doing superhero stuff right now, sorry. As much as I really enjoy Marvel movies, this movie made me realize what I’ve been missing from (what feels like) an eternity of superhero films– there’s a real sense of tension and heart in the things they do, even when you know everything’s going to work out because it’s a movie.
