Overview
Kahaani is a sleek, high-tension mystery that knows exactly how to keep you leaning forward. It turns Kolkata into more than a backdrop, using the city’s crowds, transit, and festival energy to amplify the sense of danger and uncertainty. The film’s greatest asset is its lead performance, which gives the story emotional weight even as the plot keeps shifting under your feet.
Worth noting
What makes it work is the balance between procedural momentum and carefully withheld information. The movie is constantly asking you to reassess what you think you know, and it does so with enough confidence that even familiar thriller beats feel energized. The atmosphere is gritty, the pacing is efficient, and the score helps the suspense land with real force.
Bottom line
It’s not flawless, and some viewers may find the final mechanics more satisfying than the smaller character details. But as a thriller experience, it delivers the kind of payoff that sticks. If you want a smart, commercially polished mystery with personality, this is an easy recommendation.

A well executed gritty mystery thriller that’s powered by the tremendous soulful performance of Vidya Balan, haunting score and impactful emotional dramatics. It has a few lapses, but the narrative engagingly builds the puzzle with enough anticipation and tension, keeping you grippingly hooked all through. A highly recommended watch.

Most of the time, the picture is entertaining as a thriller that straddles the style of the late Tony Scott and the later 1990s and early 2000s generic thrillers. All of our main characters, but… more

Kahaani has an interesting storyline— a pregnant wife, searching for her missing husband. Each scene doesn't make you bored, instead it makes you curious about the mystery behind "Where is her husband?" and "Is Milan Damji the same person as her husband?"

A great premise with a fantastic performance from the main cast. Salute to Vidya Balan who carried this film from beginning to end🔥 All the plot twists given didn't surprise me, but tbh it made enough sense and I liked it!
