Il vero senso del cinema risiede nel fatto che certe volte abbiamo bisogno di vedere le cose, vederle rappresentate in movimento, non lette, non immaginate, non fermate per sempre da una foto, per poterle capire davvero. Cucchi verrà ricordato per sempre soprattutto nella sua foto dell'autopsia ma, per quanto orrenda e dolorosa, non raccontava ancora tutto il calvario subito da un ragazzo e dalla sua famiglia.

Ispirato a una devastante storia vera, il film racconta la drammatica odissea di Stefano Cucchi, giovane romano che viene arrestato per detenzione e presunto spaccio di droga. Non ha idea del calvario che affronterà e la sua situazione diventerà sempre più drammatica fino al macabro epilogo, come dimostrano quelle ferite e quei lividi sul volto e sul corpo che tanto hanno fatto e fanno discutere ancora oggi (i piani ravvicinati del protagonista servono proprio ad accentuare questi particolari).
