An unromantic comedy.

Verdict
A sharp, physically inventive relationship comedy with strong joke density and a mean streak, Splitsville plays like a modern screwball farce about monogamy, jealousy, and the chaos of trying to be enlightened about love. It’s especially appealing if you like smart, well-staged comedies that turn emotional embarrassment into escalating set pieces.
Best for
Viewers who like adult relationship comedies with bite
Fans of screwball energy and escalating misunderstandings
People interested in open-relationship satire
Audiences who enjoy stylish physical comedy and choreographed chaos
Viewers looking for a funny, contemporary romance with an edge
Skip if
You want a sincere, low-key romance
You dislike cringe comedy or relationship humiliation
You prefer broad, easygoing studio comedy over sharper indie wit
You’re not interested in sex-and-dating satire
Overview
Splitsville is a glossy, anxious comedy of modern romance that treats emotional mess as a contact sport. What starts as a breakup story quickly becomes a chain reaction of crossed boundaries, wounded egos, and increasingly elaborate social disasters, all played with a very deliberate comic rhythm.
Worth noting
The movie’s biggest strength is how confidently it turns relationship theory into farce. It’s sexy, awkward, and frequently very funny, but it also has enough bite to feel like it’s actually observing how people rationalize desire, freedom, and commitment when they’re under pressure.
Bottom line
It won’t be for viewers who want their rom-coms soft and reassuring. But if you like your comedy smart, kinetic, and a little cruel, this is an easy recommendation.

Unbelievable. Really really loved this. Screwball comedy is back, baby. There’s just so much stuff here that impressed me and made me weirdly introspective. Sexy, funny, smart, really well-directed and written and choreographed. Incredible joke density. GOOFY!! One of my favorites of the year.
