Verdict
A landmark sci-fi action sequel that turns a high-concept chase movie into a surprisingly emotional story about protection, fate, and the possibility of change. It’s still one of the most exhilarating blockbusters ever made, with immaculate pacing, iconic effects, and real character weight.
Best for
fans of big-budget action with strong craftsmanship
viewers who like tense cat-and-mouse thrillers
people who want spectacle that still has heart
audiences interested in influential 90s blockbusters
Skip if
you want a quiet, dialogue-heavy sci-fi film
you dislike intense violence and relentless pacing
you prefer small-scale or understated storytelling
Overview
James Cameron takes the premise of the first film and expands it into something bigger, cleaner, and more emotionally resonant. The action is relentless, but it never feels empty: every chase, explosion, and confrontation is built around the bond between Sarah, John, and the reprogrammed T-800.
Worth noting
What makes it endure is the precision. The set pieces are legendary, the special effects still feel inventive, and the film has a rare confidence in how it moves from suspense to humor to dread without losing momentum. It’s a blockbuster that understands rhythm as well as scale.
Bottom line
Beneath the machinery, though, is a story about learning empathy and resisting a future that seems fixed. That gives the movie a surprising tenderness, and it’s why it remains more than just a great action sequel: it’s one of the defining studio films of its era.

I ordered pizza while watching this and normally I would get a Hawaiian (not interested in discourse around this, too boring) but we ordered via Domino’s, where they make you add the toppings manually. Usually I would have the focus to pull this off with extreme precision– really just batting a thousand when it comes to pressing two buttons– however this was also around the time when Arnold, Robert Patrick, and Baby Furlong are racing through the LA river and… more I ordered pizza while watching this and normally I would get a Hawaiian (not interested in discourse around this, too boring) but we ordered via Domino’s, where they make you add the toppings manually. There’s lots of PG-13 movies which feel R, but this is a rare R movie that is spiritually PG-13

Those poor guys who came to save John after he called out for help only for him to order Arnie to beat them up must've been so confused
