Verdict
A sincere, family-friendly animated retelling of Jesus’ life with polished voice work and a gentle framing device, but it plays very safely and rarely surprises. It should work best for viewers seeking a reverent introduction for kids or a faith-based watch, while others may find it familiar and dramatically thin.
Best for
Christian families
parents looking for a kid-accessible Bible story
viewers who enjoy reverent animated adaptations
fans of star-studded voice casts in family animation
Skip if
you want bold storytelling or fresh interpretation
you’re looking for complex character development
you’re not interested in religious material
you prefer animation with stronger visual invention or emotional edge
Overview
The King of Kings is built as a bedtime-story bridge between Dickens and the Gospel, and that framing gives the film a soft, approachable tone. It aims squarely at families, especially younger viewers, and it generally succeeds at making a familiar story feel orderly, clear, and easy to follow.
Worth noting
The animation and voice cast give it more polish than many faith-based releases, and there’s real effort to keep the material reverent rather than preachy. Still, the film mostly stays in safe territory, moving from event to event without much dramatic tension or character depth beyond the broad outlines of the story.
Bottom line
For believers looking for a gentle, child-friendly introduction to the life of Jesus, it’s an easy recommendation. For everyone else, it’s likely to feel more like a respectful illustrated primer than a fully engaging animated feature.

Jesus had no nipples when he was being crucified, can't tell whether or not I want angel studios to go bankrupt

“If you have faith, you’ll become stronger than before.”
This is an excellent adaptation that was able to keep my four year old son engaged while remaining faithful to the Bible. It beautifully portrays the life of Jesus Christ from birth through to the crucifixion (PG version), making it a wonderful children's movie. The narrative has a quality reminiscent of a children's sermon, making it ideal for kids and a delightful family experience overall. While I appreciated the film thoroughly,… more

Walter: If It's Not About A King, I'm Not Interested.
Charles: This Story Is About The King Of Kings.________________________
As a practicing Christian, I’ve always wondered why we rarely get quality films that represent our faith well. Good Christian films are few and far between. There are some solid ones, like The Passion of the Christ, The Gospel of John, and the brilliant series The Chosen.
There are a few others that people consider “good,” but the premise doesn’t… more
